Can I vape in pubs and bars?
In Sweden, the use of cigarettes is regulated by the Law on Tobacco and Similar Products. Since July 1, 2019, when a major amendment to the law came into effect, e-cigarettes have also been included in the smoking ban at public places and workplaces. This means that the use of e-cigarettes (vaping) follows the same restrictions as traditional tobacco smoking.
This means it is prohibited to vape indoors at pubs, bars, and restaurants, as well as in outdoor seating areas. The law aims to protect non-smokers from exposure to vapors from e-cigarettes and promote a smoke-free environment. The restrictions apply regardless of whether the e-liquid contains nicotine or not.
Where is vaping prohibited in public?
Besides pubs and bars, there are several places where vaping is prohibited:
Indoors
Workplaces and Public Spaces**: Vaping is prohibited in all indoor areas that are open to the public or constitute a workplace. This includes, but is not limited to, offices, shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, theaters, and museums.
Public Transport: The use of e-cigarettes is prohibited in all public transport, including buses, trains, subways, and taxis.
Educational Institutions: Schools, from preschools up to universities, and other educational facilities are smoke-free zones where vaping is not allowed.
Healthcare Facilities: Hospitals, health centers, nursing homes, and other care facilities are also places where vaping is prohibited.
Outdoors
Outdoor seating areas: Just like traditional tobacco smoking, it is prohibited to use e-cigarettes in outdoor seating areas belonging to restaurants, bars, and cafes.
Schoolyards and Playgrounds: To protect children and young people from exposure, vaping is prohibited in playgrounds and schoolyards.
Entrances: It is prohibited to use e-cigarettes near entrances to premises that are open to the public.
Bus Stops and Outdoor Platforms for Public Transport: Vaping is not allowed at bus stops and outdoor platforms at train stations.
Can you use heated tobacco in a pub?
Just like with vapes, heated tobacco devices are covered by the Law on Tobacco and Similar Products. Therefore, it is not allowed to use these devices in public places where smoking is banned, such as pubs and bars.

Avoid smoke odor with IQOS
When a cigarette is burned, it can reach up to 800 degrees Celsius, releasing smoke that smells unpleasant and can linger in the surroundings. IQOS is an alternative to smoking that uses HeatControl technology instead of combustion. The tobacco is heated in a controlled manner to a temperature below 350 degrees Celsius, producing vapor instead of tobacco smoke. This means you get the authentic tobacco taste and nicotine without fire, ash, or the problem of lingering smoke odor.
