However, employers, as part of their responsibility for the work environment, can decide to introduce their own rules or restrictions regarding the use of snus at work if deemed necessary to maintain a good working environment or out of consideration for other employees. Such decisions would be based on the employer’s policies rather than directly on the law regarding tobacco and similar products.
Thus, it is permissible for employers to introduce a ban on using snus at work, though they cannot impose sanctions such as fines or similar punishments.
Tobacco during breaks
Employers do not have the right to control your free time, and you are always entitled to at least one break during a five-hour workday. Breaks, which are unpaid, are considered free time, which means you are allowed to leave the workplace premises and use snus. There is no exact duration specified for breaks, but the Swedish Work Environment Authority recommends that breaks be at least 30 minutes long.
